First-Time Home Buyer Assistance…Available in Kansas
If you’ve considered owning a home, but didn’t think you’d qualify…don’t assume you need a large down payment and ‘perfect’ credit to purchase a home. Many first-time home buyers assume they have to have a 15-20% down payment to purchase a home. This simply isn’t true!
According to The National Association of Realtors, is the average first-time home buyer puts down just 6%. However, first-time home buyers in Kansas are actually eligible for programs which require little to no down payment. One specific program pays up to 5% of the purchase price to help cover your down payment and/or closing costs. That means you can purchase a home with little or no money down! Here are the details for just this one program (there are others too!):

- 5% Borrower Cash Assistance for down payment and closing costs
- 30-year fixed rate mortgage loans – Conventional, FHA, VA and USDA Rural Development Loans
Qualifications
- To qualify for the Kansas Housing Assistance Program you must:
- Minimum credit score of 640 for Conventional, VA, and USDA. 660 for FHA.
- Be a first-time homebuyer – have not owned a home in the past three years, unless the home to be purchased is in a Qualified Targeted Area Census Tract
- Meet the income and purchase price limit – see below
Maximum Household Income Limits
- 1-2 Person Household: $74,800 (Leavenworth, Wyandotte, Johnson, Linn & Miami)
- 3+ Person: $86,020 (Leavenworth, Wyandotte, Johnson, Linn & Miami)
Eligible Property Types:
- Single family detached homes
- Duplex (provided one unit owner occupied)
- Condominiums
- Townhomes
Maximum Purchase Price Limits
- $265,609 (Leavenworth, Wyandotte, Johnson, Linn & Miami)
