What questions do you have about real estate? More importantly, what questions have you never thought to ask?
Famous jazz composer and trumpeter Miles Davis once said “Don’t play what’s there, play what’s not there.”
There are a couple ways you could interpret what he said.
1. Micro Level: Musicians have to know what belongs and what doesn’t. There’s a big difference between simply playing along and actually adding something worthwhile to a piece of music. Can you hear what’s missing? What can you add that enhances or completely changes the context of the tune?
2. Macro Level: What can be done that hasn’t been done already? Miles Davis was the master of breaking musical convention. In a time when every jazzer was playing the most physically demanding and intellectually complicated music imaginable, Miles created Cool Jazz. An understated and simple form of jazz, void of all the blistering chops expected in the bebop style of the day. It was something no one else had ever thought of doing. It seems by the time people would catch on to what Miles was doing, he had already moved on to something else. If you’re not familiar, please go listen to the Kind of Blue album.
How does this apply to real estate?
In real estate, it’s not the questions you have that will get you into trouble. Instead, it’s the questions you never knew to ask that will cost you money. If buying, selling, or investing in real estate were a piece of music…could you hear what’s missing? Do you know what do add? Do you know what’s next?
Always trust a qualified professional to help you know what you’re missing. To continue the metaphor…sit back and enjoy the music. At the end of the day, you’ll be happy about how things went.
