Home Showing Tips

Believe it or not, when selling your home, no one makes more of an impact on a successful sale than you. A great Realtor will have a solid plan for attracting buyers, but without your cooperation, those showings won’t translate into offers written.  Here are some important home showing tips that will contribute to a successful and safe sale:

  • Keep your home in ready-to-show condition.
  • Ensure the house is easily accessible (lock box and key).
  • Try not to restrict when buyers can see the house. Let them see the house on their schedule.
  • For your safety, if approached directly by a buyer, require they schedule an appoint with an agent.
  • Remove or lock up valuables, firearms, jewelry, cash and prescription medications.
  • If possible, leave when buyers are looking at the house. Privacy makes buyers feel more comfortable.
  • Secure pets, or take them with you.
  • Be careful what you say when speaking with friends, family, neighbors, potential buyers, or their agents. You could inadvertently weaken your negotiating position, especially when discussing price or your urgency to sell.  This includes posting on social media.
  • Collect business cards of any real estate professionals who preview or show your home, and pass them on to the agent.
  • Be open to changes to the list price or condition of your property if it has not sold in a reasonable period of time.
